I chose this book initially for its bright illustrations. These illustrations are so bright that you might need sunglasses when reading. I’m only partially joking. Off We Go To Mexico!  is a story about a family who is on vacation in Mexico. They are constantly on the go, exploring all they can in Mexico.

The illustrations in this book are spread across both pages, with the text at the bottom of the page. The illustrations are painted, and as I mentioned before, very, very bright. There are a lot of bright reds and yellows along with cool blues on every page to name a few. The characters are drawn very simply and there are no outlines in the pictures. The illustrations are very flat. It is hard to feel any depth or scale on some of the illustrations. I think this is in part due to the ground being one solid color.

I would recommend this book to students in kindergarten and above. The story itself is very simple and every other line rhymes. This would be great to have the students find the rhyming words in the story. It also includes a list of Spanish vocabulary words and their translations on every page. Though this isn’t required for reading the story, it does add another dimension.  If I had one gripe about the book, I would say that it is too bright.
