Genre/Category: Picture Book

I chose this book because it was different than the rest of the books I had been looking at while at the library. This book was black and white, with only a sprinkling of yellow. I also really like the style that the artist uses for his illustrations. The Magic Rabbit is a story about a magician named Ray and his assistant Bunny. One day while out performing, Bunny becomes lost in the city. He wanders around until nighttime, then suddenly sees a trail of gold starts that lead him back to his magic hat, where he and Ray are reunited.

Pen, ink, and watercolor were used for the illustrations in this book. The text was hand-lettered by the author/illustrator. Like I mentioned in the introduction, this book is black and white with a little bit of yellow added in at key points. The style is mostly realistic, with a few exaggerated characteristics with the characters. The illustrations in this book fill up the entire page. Backgrounds are important and generally have a lot of detail.

This book is appropriate for all ages, preschool and up. This book could be a good ice breaker during circle time and a good time to talk about friends and how important they are to us. The illustrations could also be pointed out with how the author/illustrator uses the yellow in the story to highlight what is important. For a drawing prompt, the students could draw a black and white picture that tells a story and have a color to accent the key element in their story drawing.
